PCOS, Periods and Planning a Pregnancy
Dr. Amrutha Tulasi · September 11, 2026 · 6 min read

PCOS is one of the most common reasons for irregular periods and delayed conception. Here is what evaluation and treatment look like at Paramitha.
What PCOS actually is
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a hormonal condition. Not every woman with “cysts on scan” has PCOS, and not every woman with PCOS has many cysts. The usual picture is irregular periods, signs of extra androgen (acne, extra facial hair), and/or ultrasound findings, after other causes are ruled out.
It is one of the most common reasons Hyderabad women come to us for delayed periods or difficulty conceiving.
Why it affects fertility
Irregular ovulation means eggs are released less predictably. Weight gain, insulin resistance and thyroid problems often travel with PCOS and should be checked, not ignored.
First tests we usually discuss
- Cycle history and examination
- Thyroid, prolactin and blood sugar / insulin as needed
- Ultrasound
- Semen analysis for the partner when you are planning pregnancy
Treatment is stepwise
Lifestyle — regular meals, protein, walking, sleep — is the foundation, even before medicines. For cycles, we may use hormonal treatment. For conception, ovulation induction (OI) and IUI are often the next steps. IVF is reserved when simpler treatment is not enough.
Dr Amrutha Tulasi and the gynaecology team at Paramitha also manage PCOS-related periods, acne and laparoscopic needs where surgery is indicated.
You are not “too late”
Many women with PCOS have healthy pregnancies with the right plan. Start with a consultation rather than repeating random supplements. Book a gynaecology appointment at your nearest branch, or call the front desk to choose a convenient slot.
